Are you holding the correct posture as you walk? Analyze your features then try it again and see if you made the necessary changes.

Trust your friend
Have a friend watch you walk. Ask for their constructive criticism. Then have them take digital photos as you walk like paparazzi, magazines and other beauty photographers would during an actual show. Look at your body lines and posture in the photos. Do you look good or do you still need work. Continue to practice and watch your body and you'll be a pro in no time.

Hinze, wearing a flowing Bally dress and Jimmy Choo shoes, sat in the front row with Clark, sporting cream pants and a white shirt, with the pair holding hands as they waited for the show to start. Hinze said Clark loved attending online fashion events.

"What man doesn't like looking at beautiful women?" she said. High-profile guests included shoe designer Terry Biviano, kaftan designer Camilla Franks, TV host Livinia Nixon, ModelCo founder Shelley Barrett, Nicky Oatley, whose family owns the island; the winner of Hamilton Island's best job in the world competition Ben Southall, and racing royal Kate Waterhouse and her former rugby league player boyfriend Luke Ricketson.

The Little Joe collection featured a range of styles, from white and printed dresses to shorts and jumpsuits. Bronzed models strutted the catwalk, with makeup and tanning by cosmetic company ModelCo and shoes by Biviano.

"It's a collection that is designed to be worn at resorts," Coffey told AAP. "Beautiful fabrics, very, very sexy, lots of colour, lots of nice greyish prints." Coffey was thrilled to have so many celebrity guests, especially Hinze, whom he met only today when they almost crashed driving around the resort in their buggies.

Models walked for stylists, designers and producers at the casting session for Air New Zealand Fashion Week on Saturday 22nd August on location at the Sail Loft in Halsey Street venue at the Auckland waterfront.

All the top local agencies were there including Red 11, 62 Models, August, Clyne, Vanity Walk, Visage and Nova. The agencies represented men and women both international and local, including New Zealand's Next Top Model contestants such as Hosanna pictured left with her hair worn up high in a top knot.

The model casting session decides who will walk in the upcoming Air New Zealand Fashion Week to be held on 21- 26 September 2009.

Designers get to make their picks- but won't necessarily get their first choices if they are booked for another show immediately before or after theirs.

New Generation Designer Serena Fagence said she was there choosing ten models for her show: 6 women and 4 men, but ultimately the decision for group shows doesn't lie just with the designers, as 8 designers need to share 20 models in total. The other thing with sharing models in the context of a group show is designers can't get a different hair and makeup look for their show as the models need to walk for all 8 designers in the same segment.

Sera Lily designer Sera Vaea was choosing 14 girls to show 35 outfits. She said the label will be showing some short dresses at fashion week, so it's more useful when models show their legs in the casting, but it's flattering when they're in pants as well. Jackie Meiring, producing Andrea Moore's show, was looking for girls with long legs, long hair preferred, and not too 'edgy' or 'fashiony' for a collection that's "quite structured, with lots of prints."

So what does a model wear to a casting? The girls from 62 Models mostly wore black unsurprisingly; short tight skirts and opaque tights and 5" heels. Handy flip books display the vital stats of each fashion model, but not their age (or BMI). Hosanna (a slim 32-25-35) is 5'8" tall but most are 5' 9" and many have a shoe size that matches their dress size: 8.

The Virgin Islands were definitely sizzling this past weekend, when leggy models and creative fashion designers converged on Tortola for the 3rd installment of BVI Summer Sizzle –Fashion Extravaganza.

The four day event which ran from on July 23rd – 26th included a number of activities including a ‘White Sunset Party’, a ‘Caribbean Posh Magazine Party’, as a fashion bazaar. The highlight of the event, however, was the fashion extravaganza, held at the Cultural Center on Saturday, July 25th.

Fashion designers showcased their creative ingenuity in grand style; from ready-t-wear to elegant gowns to tailored menswear. It was all about glamour and style when Baby Phat and Phat Farm by international design mogul, Kimmora Lee Simmons along with NYC Designers Roger Gary and Cesar Galindo joined forces with BRAVO TV’s Project Runway alumni, Korto Momolu, Trinidad’s Claudia Pegus, BVI’s Kristin Frazer and St. Thomas’ Andre Ettienne. Other designers showcasing their unique collections were Ocie Collins II and Edwing D’Angelo who presented their menswear collections and Men Steppin In Design on St. Thomas and Per Te of Puerto Rico.

What would a fashion event of this magnitude be without models? They came from as far as Russia, Venezuela, Bahamas, Trinidad and the US Mainland and included celebrity beauty models, Gerren Taylor of BET’s ‘Baldwin Hills’ and Sessilee Lopez cover model for VOGUE- the Black Issue.

The US Virgin Islands were well represented by female models Sianna Wynter, Jessica Millin and Stephanie Jerson of STAR Models/St. Thomas who were right on par with the international models, strutting down the runway and walking for the top designers at the event. Southwest Florida Casting Fashion Model Week

A former model has organized the first Southwest Florida Fashion Week, a two-day fashion show that takes place next week.

But don't expect your typical high fashion show with a towering catwalk trod by skeletal models clad in couture and disdain.

The first Southwest Florida Fashion Week will take place July 17-18 at Harborside Event Center in downtown Fort Myers. It will feature guest designers from New York and Paris along with local stores and models, designers, photographers, hairstylists, makeup artists and other area businesses, organizer Hillary Grant said.

Grant, who owns event presenter Hillary's Modeling Agency, is still casting for the show and seeks female and male models ages 7-24. There are no height or weight requirements.

As a former model, the mother of a model and the owner of a modeling agency, the Port Charlotte woman knows more than most how to build a fashion show from scratch. And the Fort Myers event won't be her first in Southwest Florida - in May, she organized a Southwest Florida Fashion Week in Punta Gorda - or her last, if all goes as she plans.

"It's going to be a yearly event," said Grant, a native of Jamaica who previously lived in New York City. She moved to Port Charlotte about six months ago.

She's working with Karl Bergstrom, president of Back Bay Media Group, which is handling publicity for the event.

"I'm videotaping the whole event ... with Galen Trull, who's worked for '60 Minutes,'" Bergstrom noted. "We're committed to doing a full-blown television production, and any store that gets involved gets a tape."

Some of the stores already on board are Sears, Dillards and Lane Bryant. And local designers are encouraged to contact Grant and get exposure for their creations at the fashion show.

Grant even got local public officials on board. Lee County commissioners declared the week of July 12-18 as Fort Myers Fashion Week.

Part of the fashion show proceeds benefit the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention, a partnership between Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and North General Hospital in New York City.

The center provides cancer screening and treatment services to the medically underserved, predominantly minority population of Harlem, according to the Ralph Lauren Center and Sloan-Kettering Web sites.

There's a payoff for Grant for all her organizational efforts - if a participant is model material, she may end up signing another model to her agency. But she also hopes it succeeds to help further the cause of fashion in Southwest Florida, and she's already planning similar events in Sarasota and Naples.

24-year-old Kidan Tesfahun, Ethiopia’s Miss Millennium Queen, has been named Best Female Model of the World 2009 at a fashion modeling contest organized by Sukier Models International in Alicante, Spain, on 24th July 2009, her representatives announced.

According to the competition’s director and founder Sukier Vallejo Marte: “The contest was created with the idea of attracting new faces and talent for future projects both domestically (in Spain) and internationally…”

Tesfahun, who had previously represented Ethiopia at the Miss International 2007 and Miss Earth 2008, says her newly gained title adds confidence to her future prospects in the modeling industry.

“From here on I guess the sky is the limit for me,” the aspiring model said. “I have gained the professional acceptance I always knew I should have, and I am indeed grateful to the Almighty Lord for guiding me and making my dreams come true.”

Fitness regime : I do a couple of things to be fit, like controlling my diet to an extent and eating healthy. My workout routine varies. I run up and down the staircase daily, as I live on the 13th floor and it's the best workout. I also do cardio of different types.

Diet plan : The golden rule is to east less. I try and keep the carbs to a minimum. I usually cut desserts out of the meal. I keep the level of oil in my food to a bare minimum. Instead of eating rice and chapattis, I prefer eating boiled veggies or a piece of chicken. When it comes to meals, I do not skip the three basic meals. I try to have dinner a bit early by 7.30 pm or so and leave at that only.

Beauty tips : During any point in the day, I never leave my make-up on beyond what is needed. If you’ve come back form a party, no matter how smashed, tired or exhausted you are, it’s crucial to cleanse your skin before sleep, so that it can breathe. I do not believe in applying too much of creams and lotions as most of them do not work. Good skin is more about your inner health, so keep your skin superficially clean and to make it strong from inside, eat right and drink lots of water.

Style statement : I dress in what I feel the most comfortable, as it makes a huge difference in how I look. Even if you are wearing something that’s not a fashion statement, if you can carry it off that is all that matters. Also, I think minimal is in and it has always has been, so don’t go overboard with anything.

Success mantra: Apart from perseverance and having a good body, you need to take care of yourself, control your diet and indulge in regular exercise. You need to be hard working, as ramp walking is not an easy job. It may look cushy, but trust me it’s not, so you should b able to take ups and downs in the right spirit.

Melbourne beauty Jessica Hart was snapped up by Victoria's Secret on the back of her recent Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue shoot, the Daily Telegraph reports.

"Sports Illustrated was an amazing opportunity and I have had an incredible response to it in the US," the newspaper quoted Hart as saying.

Hart will join fellow Australian model Miranda Kerr as one of the faces of the underwear company.

Jessica wore a golden sleeveless asymmetrical dress which had a gathered front and was cinched at the waist with a black leather belt. She paired it with black tights and accessorized with black pumps, black bow clutch and spectacular multi colored stone earrings.
Her smoky eye makeup rocked with her slick bob and blunt bangs.

Drawing an end to their overseas adventure, Kate Moss and boyfriend Jamie Hince were spotted preparing to leave Thailand as they made their way through the airport terminal on Tuesday (January 6).

According to a paparazzo on the scene, “Moss seemed to take precaution with hiding her right wrist from the camera as previous photos revealed it bandaged after she received medical treatment at her resort for an unknown injury.”

The shutterbug adds, “Hince even held her hand to seemingly cover the wrist, but a closer look revealed the lingering bruise and scrapes. While waiting in line the couple then stayed close and got affectionate.”

The British TV presenter, who is the daughter of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, claims almost all the working internet models she has met have been nasty and she can't stand to be around them.

Kelly said: "Most female bikini models I've come across in my life are very jealous and mean. God forbid you eat anything in front of them - they look like they want to kill you! They're just stupid."

The Lawrence G. Foster Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) will host a fashion show at 7:30 p.m. at Café 210, 210 W. College Ave.

"We really want to raise a lot of money and get the word out about PRSSA and what kind of work we do," Brooke Hersh, PRSSA National Conference co-chairwoman, said.

Hersh said the fashion hot model show will be donating part of the proceeds to Toys for Tots, which collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distributes them as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. The other part of the proceeds will go to PRSSA to help the club send its members to the national conference in San Diego next year.

The clothing featured is lent by stores in the State College area, such as Connections, Express, Gracienne, The Rag and Bone and Sydney Mac, Hersh said.

"The models are mostly members of our committee and people who wanted to help us out," Hersh said.

She added there are four male models and 16 female models in the show.

"We worked with the stores and they helped us put together the outfits and decide which clothes went in which category. We really wanted to make sure that the clothes were comfortable for the models," Hersh said.

Melissa Gummo (junior-public relations) is one of the models for the show and said she will be wearing three outfits.

"This show is really great because you don't have to be really tall or really skinny to be a model in the show," she said.

The show will feature four categories of clothing -- casual, nightlife, business and wildcard -- and will be hosted by two PRSSA members, Hersh said.

Jessica Alba's a calendar girl

Jessica Alba has wowed fans with a stunning turn in the limited edition 2009 Campari calendar.

Less than six months after giving birth to baby Honor, Alba has starred in a series of 13 photographs shot by Mario Testino - a famous modeling photographer of fashion world.

She is following in the footsteps of Eva Mendes and Salma Hayek who featured in the last two editions of the Campari calendar.

Alba attended the calendar's launch this week in Milan, Italy, accompanied by her husband Cash Warren. Donatella Versace and her daughter Allegra also attended.

Only 9999 copies of the Campari calendar have been printed. The 2009 edition marks its 10th anniversary.

First step in modeling doesn't have to be costly

Q: My lovely daughter is wild to be a model. As her father, I may be prejudiced, but I think she has what it takes. She has just turned 16, but is almost 6 feet tall and very slim, with long, dark hair and a beautiful face. How does she break into the business without spending a fortune? Her friends have told her she will need at least $1,000 for wardrobe, photographs, makeup, coaching and so on. That seems excessive to me.

A: Your daughter might spend pocket change, but certainly not a fortune, to make the initial move into modeling. Once she has signed with an internet models agency, there will be some expenses. But not before.

To get started, all she needs are a few simple, nonprofessional photographs to send to the agencies of her choice. Photos should include three head shots (smiling, nonsmiling and profile) and a couple of full-length shots in a plain swimsuit and bare feet, taken against a plain background.

She should wear little or no makeup, a natural hairstyle and a simple, fitted outfit. The agency wants to see the real person, not a made-up model.

If the agency likes her look and decides to sign her, they will assign a photographer to take more pictures. This could cost anywhere from $150 to about $500, depending on the photographic charges taken by profession modeling photographer, and whether hair and makeup services are involved. Tip: Do not pay the photographer until after you have seen the pictures.

And forget spending money on coaching or classes. A good agency will make sure its male models, female models and bikini model are properly prepared for their shoots.

A new book full of helpful hints for would-be male models is "Break into Modeling for Under $20" by Judy Goss (St. Martin's Griffin, $14.50). Goss is a former high-fashion model, modeling agent and manager, who now is castings editor for More magazine in New York.

Modeling can be an exciting, rewarding business, but it's easy to make missteps. Read up on the subject, ask a lot of questions and stay close to your daughter if her career takes off.

Kate Moss makes her acting debut on the internet … no, not in the Paris Hilton kind of way, but in a series of ads directed by Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas) featured on the Agent Provocateur website. She is a well known model and now as internet model.
The first of four films is out now, and basically consists of a long soliloquy by Ms. Moss as she writhes around bed in her skivvies. Sadly, no amount of eerie music or black-and-white film can cover up her horrendous acting … but for some reason I think that Kate Moss in Agent Provocateur lingerie will still attract plenty of traffic.

Fans of Moss' sexy duds can find them at Agent Provocateur's Soho boutique.

FORMERAFLstar and now singing sensation Russell Robertson opened up last Wednesday’s Westfield Fountain Gate VIP Fashion Night with a toe tapping rendition of Eagle Rock.

Male and female models danced and strutted along the catwalk from 6.30pm in front of more than 6000 guests, showcasing the latest Spring and Summer fashion trends.

Labels such as Portmans, Ice Design, Dotti, Esprit, Roger David and Man to Man were featured in the parade.

Bold colours and graphic prints will be making an appearance this summer, with mini metallic coloured dresses, in silver, pewter and gold, a hot trend.

The classic black and white combination for women and for fashion model, whether it be casual or formal, was another big hit, with accessories such as dark sunglasses, crisp white pearls and bright oversized handbags adding to the final look.

Flower power was blooming as this year’s Spring Racing Carnival looks hit the catwalk. The models complemented the colourful race-wear dresses with oversized hats, fascinators and flowers.

It seems bigger is better when it comes to shoes this summer, with chunky sky high heels in tan, beige and black a must have item.

The highly anticipated swimsuit model parade was the show stopping finale, with the male and female models strutting down the catwalk in the latest looks for the beach.

Receiving roaring applause from the audience, the female models showed off the bright coloured barely-there bikinis, while the men paraded the latest looks in board shorts.

Totally strapped

In Paris, fashion model is about more than just frivolity. The relationship between a French woman and her wardrobe is somehow both more intimate and more formal than the equivalent in Britain. Whereas London style is all about expressing that week's passing obsession (and blowing that week's wages) on a pair of dancing shoes that channel Angelina Jolie/the Little Mermaid/Marge Simpson, or whoever we're loving that week, Paris is more about buying an Hermès scarf and spending the next 30 years keeping the love alive by finding subtly new ways to wear it.

The French are currently feeling pretty smug about the whole Hermès scarf approach. And frankly, who can blame them, since the modern British love affair with sticking an endless stream of fast-fashion model purchases on the credit card isn't looking too clever right now, on either a macro or micro level? (Hermès, by the way, recently reported a market-defying 14% rise in operating profit for the first half of this year.)

To be honest, in the context of what was going on in the wider world, Paris fashion week's tendency to tortuously intellectualise every jacket sleeve made me want to scream at first. When I was told that for Stefano Pilati, designer at Yves Saint Laurent, "spirit is given significance by trace and circumscribed space rather than by literal evidence ... The hard proof of a tangible reference is less important than its innocent kitsch appropriation," I thought (a) Sarah Palin's policy pronouncements make more sense and (b) get over yourself, mister, it's a jacket.

But by the end of the week, I had changed my mind. In Paris, for cultural and economic reasons, the credit crunch and the banking crisis do not colour everything in the way they did when the fashion modeling shows were being held in New York, London and Milan. And - call me superficial - I am frankly grateful for a different point of view.

So far as there is a "look" to be derived from this week's shows, it goes something like this. It focuses on the shape of the torso and the shoulders: often a corsetted waist and ribs, contrasted with pointy, vaguely sci-fi shoulders. Sometimes there are straps tracing the lines of the ribs or looped in faintly fetishistic multiples around the shoulders. At Givenchy, the look was less gothic than last season, and more glam rock - that'll be the leather trousers with flame detailing along the thigh - but the intense, angular, skinny, black aesthetic remains essentially unchanged. At Stella, black bands were wrapped bandage-tight, in the style made famous by Azzedine Alaïa.

At Galliano and at John Galliano's Dior, the look was prettier and more feminine - a Battenberg palette of pink and yellow at Dior, dusty pastels at Galliano - but bare flesh was still criss-crossed by straps. At Rue du Mail, the strapped-up look was given a more relaxed, rive-gauche makeover, with draped rather than taut loops. The torso straps even appeared at Chanel, over the top of tweed suits.

The catwalk alternative to the multi-strapped torso/pointy shoulders combination is the Victorian dummy shape. At McQueen and Balenciaga, the exaggerated proportions and curves of Victorian tailors' dolls served as the template for the clothes, contrasting (on purpose, one presumes) with the angular, curve-free bodies wearing them.

Don't panic. We are not actually going to be wearing this. I know, because all week I've been watching what the French fashion editors wear. When they want to do a bit of a strappy thing, they wear a top with loose, draped straps (Vanessa Bruno does a good line in these) under a black jacket with pointy shoulders and maybe even a hem that points down at the front. They wear this with slim trousers and heels, or a short skirt and long boots. Often the finishing touch is a thin scarf wound around the neck, and there you have it: the same elegant-edgy, strappy-black thing without looking like a science-fiction prostitute. Alternatively, if they want to channel a bit of a Victorian dummy silhouette, they go with a tightly belted jacket over a very short, very full skirt, worn with ankle boots - this gives the same abrupt-looking, jagged silhouette.

These straps and silhouettes, however, don't really make a trend by themselves. In Paris, as in the other fashion agency cities, this season of shows has failed to produce one headline-making, soundbite-friendly major trend: no Boho, no 60s. There was no consensus. But perhaps we don't need one. To allow Karl Lagerfeld, appropriately enough, the last word: "As long as you agree with yourself, that's enough - non?"
