Models walked for stylists, designers and producers at the casting session for Air New Zealand Fashion Week on Saturday 22nd August on location at the Sail Loft in Halsey Street venue at the Auckland waterfront.
All the top local agencies were there including Red 11, 62 Models, August, Clyne, Vanity Walk, Visage and Nova. The agencies represented men and women both international and local, including New Zealand's Next Top Model contestants such as Hosanna pictured left with her hair worn up high in a top knot.
The model casting session decides who will walk in the upcoming Air New Zealand Fashion Week to be held on 21- 26 September 2009.
Designers get to make their picks- but won't necessarily get their first choices if they are booked for another show immediately before or after theirs.

New Generation Designer Serena Fagence said she was there choosing ten models for her show: 6 women and 4 men, but ultimately the decision for group shows doesn't lie just with the designers, as 8 designers need to share 20 models in total. The other thing with sharing models in the context of a group show is designers can't get a different hair and makeup look for their show as the models need to walk for all 8 designers in the same segment.
Sera Lily designer Sera Vaea was choosing 14 girls to show 35 outfits. She said the label will be showing some short dresses at fashion week, so it's more useful when models show their legs in the casting, but it's flattering when they're in pants as well. Jackie Meiring, producing Andrea Moore's show, was looking for girls with long legs, long hair preferred, and not too 'edgy' or 'fashiony' for a collection that's "quite structured, with lots of prints."
So what does a model wear to a casting? The girls from 62 Models mostly wore black unsurprisingly; short tight skirts and opaque tights and 5" heels. Handy flip books display the vital stats of each fashion model, but not their age (or BMI). Hosanna (a slim 32-25-35) is 5'8" tall but most are 5' 9" and many have a shoe size that matches their dress size: 8.
